Woodland Adventure Zone

Our young carers have been climbing and zipping their way through Woodland Adventure Zone again. We had such an amazing time before, we decided to go back and have some more fun!


Mini Medics – First Aid Training

Our primary aged young carers had a fun but serious time learning all about first aid. Practising life saving manoeuvres and perfecting their bandage skills


GLASS PAINTING

Our young carers have been getting creative decorating glass jars and mugs by hand. They look amazing, full of imagination to be able to produce such fantastic designs.


PICNIC HAMPERS

Wow, what a donation! The Carers Federation – AYC said a BIG thank you to Heart Church Nottingham for donating 20 picnic hampers. Which were filled with all the things you would need for the perfect summer picnic.


CLIMBING AND ZIP LINE

Wow! Not for the faint hearted…..Our young carers really had so much fun navigating their way up the climbing wall, then zipping down the zip line. What an amazing experience at Woodlands Adventure Zone we can’t wait to go back again!


CLAY MODELLING

Our young carers have been getting creative making masks and making models from clay. So bright and colourful, the attention to detail is amazing….amazing work!


BUSHCRAFT AND DEN BUILDING

What an amazing experience at Woodlands Adventure Zone learning how to collect the right materials from the forest to build a den. Our Young Carers had a great time looking for the right pieces of wood and learning how to place them, then camouflage the den to make it more weather proof…..didn’t our young carers do a fantastic job!

Then topped off with Marshmallows over a fire pit…..yummy

Best time ever!


ORIENTEERING AND TEAM BUILDING

A fantastic day exploring at Woodlands Adventure Zone , this time Orienteering. Our Young Carers did an amazing job reading the map and finding their way around


NON SUCH LEGO CLUB

Our young carers had a fabulous time being creative, working together and using their imagination to create loads of things out of Lego. As well as having lots of FUN!


AYC FLOURISH

MINDFULNESS BOXING

Another great session last week taking part in our non-contact Mindfulness Boxing which is a mixture of boxing moves and mindfulness. Delivered by Mindful Peak Performance The session started with a 3 minute meditation practice, followed by a warm up session and then into the non-contact boxing element. Consisting of learning the basic boxing punches and tailored exercises. Finishing with a cool down leading onto another meditation practice.

ONLINE MOSAIC WORKSHOP

What a great way to start May off….we held an online Mosaic workshop.
Each young carers received a mini mosaic kit sent directly to their house. The kit included everything they would need, with instructions and then with the online guidance provided by our AYC staff, I think you will agree some amazing designs were completed.

Homemade Burger

Our young carers did an amazing job making these Homemade Burgers. The end results look delicious especially as they added in their perfect condiments to complement the burger. With the guidance of qualified cook, Rupert Aikman from Healthy Eating Solutions.

ONE TO ONE SUPPORT

One of our support workers has been providing some much needed one to one support to a young carer this week, a socially distanced walk and a cuppa in the lovely sunshine. A chance for the young carer to get some respite and share any concerns they may have, which we can provide support options for.

We’ve been out again delivering delicious hot meals to families of young carers over the last 4 weeks. Curiosity of the amazing staff at Greyfriars in Nottingham. Here’s Bec collecting some of the food to deliver….Thank you so much!

MEALS ON US

We have been out and about delivering delicious hot meals over the past 4 weeks during January and February. To families of young carers curiosity of the kind staff at Greyfriars in Nottingham. Through funding from Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)


ONLINE COOKING COURSE – JAN-FEB 2021

Our Young Carers thoroughly enjoyed our Online Cooking course. Where each week we delivered and provided the ingredients. Then the families cooked in their own kitchen with guidance from our qualified cook, Rupert Aikman from Health Eating Solutions. With each dish over the 5 weeks that the course ran, Rupert took the families through the process step by step live via Zoom from the Carers Federation kitchen. Here are some of the amazing dishes they produced


CHRISTMAS 2020

Christmas time is always fun here at The Carers Federation but it certainly couldn’t be achieved without the support of our community and their wonderful donations throughout the festive season.

We celebrated the festive season with a fantastic group of young carers via zoom and we had great fun!

We’ve delivered food, chocolate, games and craft materials in our AYC activity packs. One young carer crafted an amazing Christmas pudding

Hetvi & Sewa Day donated a huge amount of presents

GEM FM also donated a vast amount of gifts to AYC from businesses throughout Nottinghamshire to gift forward to our young carers and their families


LIGHT PARTY

What’s the best way to have a party? A Light party of course! We had an amazing time it gave the young carers a chance to think about what brings them joy and makes them shine. Who would of thought so much fun and laughter could be had with glow sticks, glow in the dark play dough and paper lantern crafts.


CARERS RIGHT DAY

To celebrate Carers Rights Day we held a Zoom session with a group of amazing young carers. We talked about all the brilliant words we can use to describe them and all the important things they do!


ONE TO ONE SUPPORT

Some young carers got creative using our Activity packs to make Halloween decorations to decorate their homes


OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

You can’t beat being outdoors in the fresh air and where possible following Covid-19 guidelines. We have took the opportunity and utilised the outdoor space we have at The Carers Federation to provided small groups some outdoor activities.


CREATE

Our young carers had a great time working in partnership with Create in October 2020. Attending their workshops via Zoom over 3 days. Where young carers were able to explore and improve financial literacy with the use of poetry and drama. Working on their creative writing skills with a professional writer but more importantly meeting other young carers and having some fun.


ONE TO ONE SUPPORT

We have continued to support our Young Carers in whatever way we can during the pandemic. One of our Support workers took these photos whilst enjoying a lovely socially distanced, 1:1 support session with a Young Carer, along the River Trent.


BAKING ACTIVITIES – Jun 2020

We were so pleased to see these delicious cupcakes made by two of our young carers. The cupcakes were made from the ingredients in the Activity packs that the AYC Team delivered to families during lockdown.

Well done to all the young carers for demonstrating their baking skills.

WEEKLY ZOOM ACTIVITIES – Aug 2020

We’ve been busy delivering more snacks and activities packs throughout August for our weekly Young Carers Zoom activities. They are going to have great fun with these popular pavement chalks this time. Which were kindly donated by The Vine Community Centre.

We had some fabulous donations from The Vine Community Centre. Which we put to good use, making up these great outdoor activity packs. That staff hand delivered to our young carers during in June 2020. Bags of fun!

CARERS WEEK 2020 – Jun 2020

As part of Carers Week 2020 we held some brilliant fun, packed Zoom Cafes with our young carers. It was lovely to still be able to come together to celebrate with our young carers and recognise what they do and the different impacts their roles have. It was fabulous to be able to be joined by Nadia Whittome MP, in one of our quiz sessions. Sorry you didn’t win Nadia, maybe next time!

ART COMPETITION

In June we held an Art competition. We were very impressed by all the entries. It certainly looks like we have some budding artists don’t you think? They all look brilliant. Well done everyone!

ACTIVITY PACKS FOR YOUNG CARERS DURING LOCKDOWN – Jun 2020

Here is one of the activity packs we gave out this summer, it was how to grow a plant from seeds. One of our Young Carers did a fantastic job and is proudly showing off the plants she has grown.


ACTIVITIES DURING LOCKDOWN – May 2020

During summer 2020 we teamed up with The Vine Community Centre to offer activity packs to families. One of the activity packs we did was a Dance competition! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone’s moves!

DELIVERING FOOD TO YOUNG CARER FAMILIES

Our staff have been out and about delivering hot food and toys during May 2020.

We have delivered 45 hot, freshly prepared meals to some of the Young Carers and Nottingham Works Families that we are supporting.

But we couldn’t have done it without our excellent community partners. Big shout out to Sewa Day (twitter: @sewaday) for providing the ingredients and thanks to Larwood and Voce (twitter: @LarwoodVocePK) for cooking it all up for us. We would also like to thank Hetvi (twitter: @hetvi_sw) for coordinating our efforts.

Social distancing measures were strictly adhered to and we think we all look rather fetching in our masks, don’t you? We all had big smiles underneath them!

Fashion statements aside ,we want to let you know that we are still offering support to Young Carers and their families.

The AYC team and community partners will be delivering more food again next week.
